Dash USB port

Replaced one of the dashboard “cigarette” ports with a USB adapter. I chose to replace the Aux as the other port is a dedicated 20A outlet and is more useful left as is.

This is super easy to do, but the trick is finding an adapter that fits in the existing 7/8” opening. We have a working electroluminescent dash so increasing the opening is not an option.

The EL electroluminescent panel works off a very high frequency inverter. There is an insulating sheet between the aluminum dash backing panel and the EL. This works as long as there are no exposed EL panel ends to short out on the aluminum. If there is an exposed end of the EL sheet that is too close to the aluminum panel, either by drilling a hole or otherwise, the EL will short, and will start melting the dash exterior laminate.

I ended up using: Acegoo RV USB Outlet All-Aluminum, it fit perfectly, anything larger would not fit through that existing cutout.
